This Good Friday, let’s reflect on the sacrifice Jesus made to make us whole, and this Easter Sunday, let’s remember that He IS the resurrection. All our work in this life is by His grace and for His glory.

From selling drugs to praising God: The testimony of Pak Yos

SLAM!

The iron bars closed in front of him. The sound of keys jingled heavily, locking him away from the outside world.

“How did it get like this?” he thought with a heavy heart, the world around him glazed with tearful eyes.

Pak Yos found himself in Bali’s prison for using drugs. He didn’t mean for things to get so out of hand.

One day turned into two—turned into months, and he knew he never wanted to end up back in here again. But for that to happen, he would have to change his life.

That’s where Mercy Indonesia comes in!

Apart from developing inmates in correctional institutions, the Mercy Indonesia Foundation also supports newly released individuals.

Five people are attending the Integrated Personality Development school in the correctional institution. 

After being released from the correctional institution, they joined the Church at Mercy Indonesia, faithfully coming every Sunday, and are already working.

One of those people is Pak Yos.

Pak Yos was recently released from prison after being charged with narcotics use. In prison, He attended the Integrated Personality Development school, and after perfect attendance, he is 100% sober.

After being released from prison, he attends Mercy Church every Sunday.

Now, he is in the business of selling matches. Pak Yos often shares after worship that he really experienced God's intervention in his business.

These days, most would think his business has no use. Not many use matches anymore.

But because of his faith in God, every day, many people buy his matches.

“Every day before work, I pray to God, asking Him to guide me where to sell matches,” he said.

“I experience God's presence not only by selling the matches but also by becoming a blessing to others by sharing my story with them and about Jesus.”

Like Jesus, we believe in second chances. Whether it’s a child in need or a grown man who wants his life back, God’s goodness and grace extend to all who take it.
