The Future is with the Children

Today is all about highlighting our Children’s Learning Centers (PAUD). We have a lot to thank God for, but here are some exciting things that are helping us make a significant impact in the nation, even in small ways.

The Simple Joy of Children

“The joy in their eyes was like no other. When we came to see them, they lit up!”

This was part of the testimony of Pastor Abigail Esterina (Announcer of the Praise and Testimony Program Team) after visiting the 12 children of Oel’Ekam Mercy Preschool located in Oel’Ekam Village, Kuafe’u Hamlet, in Central Timor.

“We saw for ourselves learning to sing, memorizing Bible verses, learning to color pictures, and enjoying snacks, enriched the children.”

Our hope is that the children across all our Mercy Children’s Centers (called PAUD in Indonesian) will continue to learn and become a light to the world when they grow up.

Why Children’s Centers (PAUD)?

Someone once asked us,

“Why children’s centers? After all, you could be setting up entities that establish a recurring cash flow rather than relying on the kindness of strangers for donations.”

While they had the best intentions behind their words, they were missing out on a fundamental truth. Our vision is not to generate money for the sake of money but to invest in children’s lives for the future of Indonesia.

The future is held in the hands and hearts of our children. However, Unicef records that around 4.3 million children and adolescents in Indonesia don’t have access to basic education.

Plus, with education being a proven link to poverty and social issues, our mission is clear. We must do all we can to educate them young, teach them values, and set them up for a future. One day, they will be the ones to change this nation.

That’s why the Mercy Children’s Learning Center initiative exists. And it’s one that you can be a part of. With the kindest of strangers and partners, we’ve educated thousands of children and put smiles on their faces!
